Ingredients:

Two green (unripe) plantains olive oil

cooking spray

3 cups water, or as needed

salt to taste

Directions:

An air fryer should be preheated to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Trim the plantain’s tips. Make a vertical cut through the thick skin from end to end, careful not to sever the plantain’s flesh.

Slice plantains into 1-inch slices while the peel is still on. Beginning with the slit you created, remove the skin off each chunk.

Put the chunks of plantain in the basket of your air fryer and mist them with olive oil spray. For five minutes, air fry.

Prepare a dish of salted water in the interim. Utilizing tongs, remove the chunks of plantain from the air fryer. Utilize a tostone (plantain smasher) to smash to a thickness of approximately 1/2 inch.

Smash the remaining tostones while soaking the broken ones in the dish of salted water. The tostones should be removed from the salted water and dried with a paper towel.

Tostones should be added to the air fryer in batches, filling the basket with a single layer each time. Salt the tops and sprinkle with olive oil spray before air-frying for five minutes.

Spray some olive oil on the other side and flip with tongs. Use salt to season. For 4 to 5 minutes, air fried until crisp and golden brown.
